Federal Consolidation Student Loan
A Federal Consolidation Loan is apart of two federally-sponsored loan
programs: the Federal Family Education Loan Program (FFEL) and the Federal
Direct Loan Program (FDLP). These programs are designed to help students and
parents consolidate several types of federal student loans into one loan
with various repayment options. A federal consolidated loan will
reduce monthly payments when you refinance your student or parent loan.
Most federal student loans and PLUS loans can be consolidated.
The types of loans available in both programs are the same and include: Federal
PLUS (parent) Loans, Federal Stafford Loans (both subsidized and unsubsidized)
and Federal Consolidation Loans. The program you choose depends on the
school you choose to attend.
